Getting a Safe, Clean, Beautiful Tattoo in Rhode Island

Tattoo artists are required, as members of the Alliance of Professional Tattoo artists, to take courses every two years to update and refresh their skills, and to take a yearly written exam. Jeff Goyette, owner and builder of the Inflicting Ink Traveling Tattoo truck, has been a member of this alliance since 1993, and suggests that his artists not only take the yearly exam, but become members of the alliance as well.

How safe is too safe when you're considering getting a tattoo? According to Jeff, there is no such thing as too safe. The Department of Health in the State of Rhode Island called his methods of sterilization and his procedures for securing cross-contamination issues an 'unnecessary precaution' because they were so far above and beyond the state standards for the same issues. Jeff does not feel that you can ever be too safe when you are dealing with someone else's health and welfare.

In fact, upon an inspection of the Traveling Tattoo truck from the Department of Facility Regulations, it was determined that the Inflicting Ink Tattoo Studio and Traveling Tattoo truck practices will set the standard for new tattoo stations within the State. This department stated that the traveling truck was the “best tattoo studio they had ever seen”.

The Inflicting Ink Traveling Tattoo truck employs the same or better sterilization and environment practices that most hospitals employ, including foot pedals on all appliances eliminating the need for artists to use their hands to touch anything, ensuring that all autoclaves are spore tested monthly and that reports are filed with the Department of Health, employing only those artists that are licensed and certified in cross contamination and blood-born pathogens, the use of infrared technology and maintenance of a highly sterile environment.

While in most instances traveling tattoo tours are required to perform periodic licensing throughout the year in the states in which they plan to operate, Inflicting Ink Traveling Tattoo truck has been granted a year round facility license status in every state it carries a license for, making it the first traveling tattoo studio to be granted this type of license in the United States.
