RI Tattoo Studio Attended CMA Awards in Nashville

Rhode Island’s Inflicting Ink Traveling Tattoo at the CMA Festival

NASHVILLE, TN, June 10-13, 2010 The Inflicting Ink Traveling Tattoo truck, a mobile tattoo studio based out of Portsmouth RI, traveled to the Country Music Awards festival in Nashville, TN on June 10-13, 2010. The truck was created and built by world renowned tattoo artist Jeff Goyette, who also owns Inflicting Ink Tattoo Studio in Portsmouth RI.

The Country Music Awards festival is a 39 year old annual festival held in Nashville, TN. The festival has particularly special significance right now because of the massive floods that destroyed Nashville earlier this year. A great deal of the proceeds from the event went to support flood relief. Inflicting Ink Traveling Tattoo truck’s attendance at the festival included tattoo artists Jeff Goyette, son Corey Goyette, and special guest artist and owner of Lone Wolf Body Art in Nashville, Ben Dixon, as well as the winners of an all expense paid trip auctioned by Cat Country 98.1 WCTK in Providence, with the proceeds of over $3,000 going to Rhode Island’s flood victims.

“It is an amazing feeling to be able to give back in this way, “ Jeff said of his involvement in the auction and CMA Festival. “I’m really excited for what’s next on our agenda, and what we can ultimately accomplish through this massively misunderstood medium of tattooing.”

While in Nashville, the 78.5 foot mobile studio was parked across the street from LP Field at Limelight Studios where over 50 people were tattooed during the Festival. In addition to bringing extra business the city, the event was filmed for eventual airing in 2011 on the television reality show that is based upon the traveling studio’s story, and will create extra exposure for Nashville in the process as well.

Getting a Safe, Clean, Beautiful Tattoo in Rhode Island

Tattoo artists are required, as members of the Alliance of Professional Tattoo artists, to take courses every two years to update and refresh their skills, and to take a yearly written exam. Jeff Goyette, owner and builder of the Inflicting Ink Traveling Tattoo truck, has been a member of this alliance since 1993, and suggests that his artists not only take the yearly exam, but become members of the alliance as well.

How safe is too safe when you're considering getting a tattoo? According to Jeff, there is no such thing as too safe. The Department of Health in the State of Rhode Island called his methods of sterilization and his procedures for securing cross-contamination issues an 'unnecessary precaution' because they were so far above and beyond the state standards for the same issues. Jeff does not feel that you can ever be too safe when you are dealing with someone else's health and welfare.

In fact, upon an inspection of the Traveling Tattoo truck from the Department of Facility Regulations, it was determined that the Inflicting Ink Tattoo Studio and Traveling Tattoo truck practices will set the standard for new tattoo stations within the State. This department stated that the traveling truck was the “best tattoo studio they had ever seen”.

The Inflicting Ink Traveling Tattoo truck employs the same or better sterilization and environment practices that most hospitals employ, including foot pedals on all appliances eliminating the need for artists to use their hands to touch anything, ensuring that all autoclaves are spore tested monthly and that reports are filed with the Department of Health, employing only those artists that are licensed and certified in cross contamination and blood-born pathogens, the use of infrared technology and maintenance of a highly sterile environment.

While in most instances traveling tattoo tours are required to perform periodic licensing throughout the year in the states in which they plan to operate, Inflicting Ink Traveling Tattoo truck has been granted a year round facility license status in every state it carries a license for, making it the first traveling tattoo studio to be granted this type of license in the United States.
